British Superbikes – Thruxton 2010 Results, Race 1

Tommy Hill made a last grasp to take the win from Australian Josh Brookes in a thrilling race at Thruxton.

It was an amazing start as Easton rocketed into the lead off the line ahead of Hill and Kagayama. Hill was straight up behind Easton though putting pressure on him within the first lap.

Brookes was down in fifth but barged Michael Rutter out of the way to move fourth on the eight lap. Up at the front Kagayama took Easton to take the lead in the British Superbike for the first time in over six years.

Lap eleven and Brookes shot past Hill to take third and then passed Easton a little later to move up to second. Hill also took advantage to move into third pushing Easton back to fourth.

Kagayama lead for a few laps but wasn’t able to hold on once the charging Brookes made a move and passed to take the lead. Kagayama and Hill in second and third then swapped places continuously behind Brookes but never let him get too far away.

Hill slotted past Brookes on the penultimate lap to take first place and held on to the end to win the race. Brookes finished in second for his first podium this season and Kagayama held on to third for his first top three finish since 2004.

Hill said: “That race was non-stop every lap and it was a real fight out there and towards the end everyone was all over the place. I was comfortable in the middle of the race but then Josh came past and I have to say I wasn’t expecting it as I thought I had braked late! It is good for everyone and I want to thank the Worx Crescent Suzuki team; lets see if we can make it the double in race two.”
