It was a German dream in the first two laps of the race as Jonas Folger & Marcel Schrotter leapt from the lead with wet tyres and pulled out a massive 3 second lead within a lap. However the track was already drying out when the race started and it took next to no time for Marc Marquez and Pol Espargaro on slicks to catch them, overtake them and pull out their own dominate lead.
With 9 laps to go Marquez and Espargaro, constantly changing for the lead, had a 17 second advantage over the chasing pack over Rabat, Krummenacher, Koyama and Smith. They also lapped Jonas Folger with 9 laps to go as well.
The chasing pack was constantly changing as well as Krummenacher lead for a while, then Smith, then Koyama all attempted to lead the pack. This all allowed Sandro Cortese to catch the pack making up a five second deficit within a few laps.
But this was a dominant performance from both Marc Marquez and Pol Espargaro who’s lead just kep on extending. However, disaster struck with 2 laps to go as Espargaro ran wide coming out of a corner and run over the astro-turf and the bike just threw him off. He tried to get back on and get the bike started was unable to and this was his first non-points finish.
