Indian motorcycle manufacturer Bajaj Auto is expected to increase it’s existing 30% stake in KTM from the end of February/early March to a controlling stake, possibly 51% or more. Bajaj and KTM are believed to be in talks as we speak about the deal and reports are suggesting KTM are happy for Bajaj to take the controlling share. It’s not known if Bajaj will increase it’s stake to around 90% immediately or whether it will be done in phases. Full details should emerge in the next few days or coming weeks.

Should the deal happen it will give Bajaj a major foothold in the European bike market and a much needed research & development centre and also open up avenues for launching bigger sportsbike from the KTM line-up in India, which is the second-largest market in the world for two-wheelers.
